 Scarce Wolf Snake Lycodon effraenis
Size: up to 80 cm |
The scarce wolf snake is a terrestial and common species distributed across lowland rainforest. Juveniles to young adults are brown with widely spaced whitish irregular bands. The ventrals are brown while the bands at the bottom are yellow in colour. The scarce wolf snake will eventually lose these bands as it matures.
The head is dark, with a large white streak on both sides that extends from the snout, above the orbit and all the way to the start of the neck. The upper labials are white. This wolf snake feeds on lizards and probably frogs in the wild. This usually docile snake is distributed across Malaysia, Southern Thailand, Indonesia (Sumatra), Singapore and Borneo in Southeast Asia.
