Snakes ~ Other Snakes ~ Blind Snake

This rather stout blind snake species is rarely seen as it spends most of its life under the soil, as typical of this genus. The body is dark and the head is ill-defined, though the tiny eyes are visible. The ventrals are whitish while the scales are very smooth. The tail ends very bluntly.

The blind snake occurs mostly in lowland to mid-level rainforest, feeding on earth worms, ants and termites. It has been reported to feed on snakes as well. The blind snake gives birth to live young, about 4-15 at a time. In Southeast Asia, this species occurs in Malaysia, Borneo, Singapore and Indonesia.
